Help & FAQ
Everything you need to keep score with Soccer Scoreboard — the match clock, what's free vs Pro, and how your data stays on your device.
Clock & Rules
The match clock is the heart of the app — built to behave like an expert soccer tool you can trust, for both children's and adult play.
Does the clock keep running when I lock my phone?
Yes. The match clock is background-safe: it keeps correct time when the app is backgrounded, when your phone locks, and even after the app is relaunched. It won't drift or jump backwards — the time you see is the real elapsed time of the match.
How do I start the second half?
The clock is fully editable. At half-time the clock pauses; when the teams are ready you explicitly start the second half, and the clock continues from the correct point for that period. You can also pause and adjust the clock at any time.
Count-up with added time, or count-down with a stop-clock?
Soccer Scoreboard supports both philosophies, and never mixes them in one match. The authentic default (IFAB and youth soccer) is count-up with added time: the clock runs up and never auto-stops mid-half — the referee adds stoppage time and you end the period when it's played.
For scholastic play (NFHS / NCAA) there's a count-down with a stop-clock: the clock counts down and stops for stoppages, with a horn at zero. The match preset you pick sets the right philosophy for the level you're playing.
How do added/stoppage time and extra time work?
Within a half you can add stoppage (added) time — the minutes the referee signals for injuries, substitutions, and delays. For knockout matches that are level at full time, you can play extra time: two further periods with their own break, using the correct terminology throughout (extra time, not a generic label).
How does a penalty shootout work?
When a knockout match is still level after extra time, you can resolve it with kicks from the penalty mark. The app alternates kicks between the teams, tracks each kick's result, ends the shootout early once the lead is insurmountable, and moves into sudden death — and it shows the shootout tally separately from the match score.
Can I match my league's rules?
Yes. Pick an authentic, editable preset for your level — small-sided youth quarters or halves, high-school 2×40, college 2×45, or adult/pro 2×45 with stoppage time. Each preset sets the period type, count, duration, break, extra-time availability, and shootout — and every preset is editable, since local leagues and states vary.
Free vs Pro
Soccer Scoreboard is free to download and free to keep score with. Pro is a single one-time purchase that unlocks the glanceable surface.
What's free?
The full, reliable scoreboard on iPhone and iPad — the trustworthy match clock, two-team score with undo, the per-goal log with the minute, a merged event timeline with cards and substitutions, penalty shootouts, editable presets, a large sunlight-legible touchline mode, match history, and sharing as image or PDF. No time limit, no ads.
What does Pro unlock?
Pro is a single one-time $4.99 purchase that unlocks the glanceable surface: the Apple Watch app (live score and clock on your wrist), the Live Activity + Dynamic Island on your Lock Screen, and Home & Lock Screen widgets.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a single one-time $4.99 purchase — buy it once and keep it. No subscription, ever.
I already bought the old app — do I have to pay again?
No. If you bought the app before this version, you're automatically grandfathered into Pro — it unlocks on first launch, with no purchase required. Thank you for being an early supporter.
How do I restore Pro on a new device?
Open Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed in with the same Apple ID, your Pro unlock comes right back. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple — use Apple's Report a Problem page for a refund.
Privacy & Offline
Soccer Scoreboard is built to keep your data on your device. If Then Dev does not collect personal data, run analytics, or store your matches on a server.
Does the app work offline?
Completely. There's no account and no login — every feature works with no network at all. Your matches are stored on-device, in an App Group container shared with the widgets and Live Activity, and nothing is uploaded to If Then Dev.
What data does the app collect about me?
None. The privacy label is Data Not Collected. There are no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. Your matches stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the specifics.
How are purchases handled?
The one-time Pro purchase is processed by Apple via StoreKit. If Then Dev never sees your payment information, and there's no third-party billing or analytics SDK involved.
Will I lose my match if I close the app mid-half?
No. Matches are saved automatically on-device, so an interrupted half is right where you left it when you reopen the app — even after backgrounding or a restart.
