QuickScan is designed with your privacy in mind. We collect minimal data and never sell your information.
Information We Don't Collect
QuickScan does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to If Then Dev servers. We don't track your usage, build profiles, or share data with advertisers.
Camera Access
QuickScan uses your device's camera solely to scan book barcodes. Camera access is requested only when you use the scanning feature. No images or video are stored, transmitted, or recorded. The camera is used exclusively for real-time barcode detection on your device.
Book Lookups
When you scan or enter a book's ISBN, QuickScan queries third-party book information services to retrieve the book's title, author, cover image, and reading levels (such as ATOS, Lexile, Guided Reading Level, and DRA). These queries include:
- The book's ISBN number
- The book's title and author (for reading level lookups)
No personal information, device identifiers, or user data is sent with these requests. The third-party services receive only the book information necessary to return reading level data.
Local Data Storage
Your scan history is stored locally on your device. This includes:
- Book titles, authors, and ISBNs you've scanned
- Reading levels retrieved for each book
- Cover images (cached for display)
- Date and time of each scan
This data remains on your device and under your control. You can delete individual books or your entire scan history at any time from within the app.
iCloud Sync
If you have iCloud enabled, your scan history may sync across your Apple devices using whichever iCloud account the device is signed into. This sync uses Apple's CloudKit service and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. Your data is stored in that account's private CloudKit database — never in a shared or public database — and is not accessible to If Then Dev.
Home Screen Widgets
QuickScan's Home Screen widgets display your recently scanned books. This data is shared between the main app and widget extension using a secure App Group container on your device. Widget data never leaves your device except through iCloud sync (if enabled).
Spotlight Search
QuickScan indexes your scanned books for iOS Spotlight search, allowing you to quickly find books from your Home Screen. This index is stored locally on your device and is managed by iOS.
Subscriptions
QuickScan offers optional in-app subscriptions managed through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. To do this, RevenueCat may collect anonymous purchase data and device identifiers. QuickScan also sends RevenueCat a small amount of non-personal usage information about book lookups — the most recent scanned ISBN, which lookup source answered it, and whether the lookup succeeded — to help us understand which book data sources are working. This information identifies books, not people: no name, contact, or account information is attached. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details. Your payment information is handled entirely by Apple and is never shared with If Then Dev.
Data Export
You can export your scan history as CSV or PDF files using the built-in export feature. Exported data is shared only through methods you explicitly choose (email, AirDrop, Files, etc.).
Children's Privacy
QuickScan is designed for use by teachers and parents to help children find appropriately leveled books. It is intended for adults; it is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app collects no names, contacts, accounts, or profile information from anyone. The limited technical data it does handle — anonymous purchase and device identifiers, and the book-lookup information described under "Subscriptions" above — is processed to operate subscriptions and is never used to build a profile or identify a child. Children should use QuickScan under adult supervision.

Intended Use
QuickScan is designed to help teachers, parents, and educators find reading level information for books. Reading levels are provided for informational purposes to assist in matching students with appropriately challenging reading material.
Data Accuracy
Reading level information is retrieved from third-party sources and may not be available for all books. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or availability of reading level data. Always verify reading levels through official sources when accuracy is critical.
License
QuickScan is licensed under Apple's standard End User License Agreement. The license is limited, revocable, and non-transferable.
Subscriptions
QuickScan offers optional subscriptions for unlimited scanning and additional features. Payment is charged to your App Store account. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings.
